Hi & Welcome to Frugalisama & Stitch Make Create

I’m Sam & I love to sew but find that it CAN be an expensive hobby, hopefully I can help you to cut costs with my frugal ways, making this lovely craft more accessible to everyone! Hence Frugalisama – I’m frugal, called Sam & the extra is just for fancy!

I also like to knit, crochet,  read & enjoy taking long walks in the surrounding countryside with my rescue Springer Spaniel – Rogue (he likes, balls, sticks, long walks & getting muddy – not always conducive to a faffing with fabric but he’s adorable, so he can stay). When I’m not crafting or walking, I can generally be found at my local sampling the cider & putting the world to rights.

While I did a bit of sewing at school, I’m largely a self taught sewist. My mum bought me my first machine when I was pregnant, over 30 years ago, as I couldn’t afford maternity clothes & I have dabbled in & out since, making the odd thing here & there. But my real obsession started when the Great British Sewing Bee started in the UK & I found the online sewing community.

It is because of this lovely community that I wanted to start a blog & then went onto making Youtube videos. So many blogs & YouTube videos have helped me progress over the last couple of years, that I wanted to contribute something back & help others in the way I had been helped. So you won’t be seeing lifestyle photos of me staring at my feet but hopefully real photos of real, everyday clothes that get worn regularly with a few helpful hints along the way. I am hopeful that this will be a 2 way conversation where you feel able to pitch in with your ideas for saving money while creating a wardrobe that fits you & your lifestyle.

Update October 2022

I have some exciting news! Since starting the blog & YouTube channel I have now got the opportunity to provide sewing & craft workshops in my local town of Horbury, just outside of Wakefield, West Yorkshire. I’ve got grand plans for all sorts of different workshops, sewcials & community sessions that will help to either get you started sewing, improve your existing skills & learn some new fibre related crafts.

I write about home sewing on a budget.
